traffic info!

Sorry for the over-abundance of posts today, but I just posted this in the BR community and thought some of you on here might be interested:

I monitor interstate traffic cameras across the state. It's still in the test phases, but we've created a Twitter account for people that would like updates on interstate traffic in the Baton Rouge area. You can get the information texted to your phone, even. I'm not a big Twitter fan but I think it's good for this purpose. Please follow us and be a part of our initial test group to give feedback :) Let all your friends and family know!

http://twitter.com/BR_Traffic

*friends cut*

Since I couldn’t get back to sleep, I just went ahead and did a big cut to my friends list, which I’ve been meaning to do for awhile. It’s nothing personal. It was just either A) you never post anymore [and we have other ways of getting in touch like myspace or fb] or B) we don’t have much in common and never commented on each other’s journals. If you think I deleted you in error [which is possible...I got a little click happy] or you just don’t update but still read, let me know and I’ll add you back.

michael actually decided to sleep at his mom's tonight (he had to go over there to store some stuff anyway), so i have the night/apartment/bed to myself. i am sort of freaked out and sad, yet happy and excited at the same time. i think i am going to stop by my mom's after work and steal her blender so i can at least experiment with green smoothies tomorrow and decide if it's worth it to buy my own blender. which means i will have to wake up early (for me) to drive to the produce stand and get some good stuff. i need to wake up early to go to the the post office anyway, so that's cool.

sorry for all the posts tonight! i'm super bored and seem to have a lot to say, for some reason.

another natural "cure"

Recently, I have been having a lot of problems with my face/skin. I have always had dry skin, but it's been worse recently, even after exfoliating and no matter how much or what kind of lotion I used. I also had isolated breakouts and my skin was red and blotchy in places. I looked up natural facial scrubs online and I came up with a great one from the research I did. I have used it for 3 days now (so I don't know the long-term usefulness of it) and it's made my skin sooo soft, clean, moisturized, and clear. Here is the recipe, as I adapted it (I didn't want to make too much in case I didn't like it or in case it spoiled):

Olive Oil & Salt Scrub

Take an air-tight container (I used a small tupperware) and pour equal parts of table salt and ground sea salt. Pour enough olive oil in to make a thick paste. Add 2 drops of tea tree oil (to help acne) and 2 drops of peppermint oil (to make it smell good, cool, and invigorate). Stir it all together. Now just bring it in the shower, slap it on your face, and scrub gently (avoid eye area)! Rinse well with warm water. It might feel like there is a slight greasy residue left in the shower, but as soon as you get out of the water, it absorbs into your skin and leaves it soft and dewy. I have read many articles that say this is totally safe, even if you have oily skin. It will NOT make your skin oilier.

I have already had several people tell me how fresh and pretty I look since I started using it! It's really wonderful.

I am also looking into buying some Virgin Coconut Oil to use as moisturizer and hair conditioner. I have read amazing things about how beneficial it is.

Pesto Pasta w/Shrimp, Asparagus, and Cherry Tomatoes

This is for Raquel and Krissy and everyone else who asked for it! I just made it up off the top of my head (as I do with 90% of what I cook), so typing out a "recipe" is kind of hard, but here we go:

Pesto Pasta w/Shrimp, Asparagus, and Cherry Tomatoes

- 1 package of brown rice spaghetti (or any spaghetti you want)
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1/2 bundle of fresh asparagus, ends trimmed and then chopped
- 3/4 lb. fresh shrimp
- 1/2 package cherry tomatoes, cut in halves
- 1/2 jar pre-made pesto sauce (not the plain pesto, "pesto sauce")
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- olive oil
- salt/pepper/seasoning (i use "Slap Ya Mama"s) to taste

Put the (salted) water on to boil for the pasta. Add a little olive oil to a pan. Saute the green onions and garlic till soft. Add the chopped asparagus. Saute until they are a bit tender, but still have some bite. The pasta is probably ready to go into the pot at this point. Add the shrimp to the pan with the asparagus. Cook until they start turning pink. Add the cherry tomatoes. Cook until they start wilting a little. Add the pesto sauce. If it's too thick, add a spoonful of the pasta water to it. Add the seasoning (enough to flavor the pasta too) and parmesan cheese. Simmer and stir until the pasta cooks. Drain the pasta, add it back to the pot. Pour the sauce over the pasta and toss it till it's coated. ENJOY! :)

Asian Vegetable Soup

So, I "made up" this recipe when I was in Texas and I've made it a few times and it's sooo yummy and simple and completely FAT FREE. I thought I would share! You can add or take away whatever you want, but this is the combo that has worked best for me:

Asian Vegetable Soup

- 1 head cauliflower, cut into chunks
- 1 head broccoli, cut into chunks
- 1 large zucchini (or 2-3 smaller ones), cut in small pieces
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- enough water to cover everything (or chicken or vegetable stock)
- 4 chicken boullion cubes (not needed if you use stock)
- 2 generous tablespoons soy sauce (more if you like)
- 1 large handful cilantro, chopped
- plenty of salt, pepper, and/or cajun seasoning (like Tony Cachere's or Slap Ya Mama)
- generous squirt of sriracha (if you like things spicy)

Add all the items to the pot, except for the soy sauce and half the cilantro. Bring to a boil, then simmer with the top on for about an hour, or until veggies start getting soft. Add the soy sauce and the rest of the cilantro. Simmer another 30 minutes, or until veggies are very soft. The broccoli and cauliflower will fall apart and make the soup thick and delicious! It's even better the next day.

I will make this recipe-posting a regular thing if y'all are interested...just let me know! And please feel free to post any health-friendly recipes you like as well!! :)

GREAT JOB OPPORTUNITY

Well, since I am leaving, my position is open. I have talked about my job quite a bit and I honestly like it a lot (except being tired all the time, but that is because I never sleep more than like 4 hours a night). It WILL be the M-F 5:30am-2pm shift...keep that in mind. The job pays very well and you will be eligible for benefits if you work full-time. Here is the ad that will be running next week, so you can know more info:

ITS Operator (FT&PT) This position is responsible for Intelligent Transportation System operations.
I know I rarely talk about makeup other than MAC here, but I HAVE to talk about my new mascara. As some of you may know, I am ALWAYS searching for my "holy grail" mascara, but none ever remotely measure up. Well, I HAVE FOUND IT!! Rimmel's Lycra Lash Extender Mascara is AMAZING!! And it really does do everything it claims in that link...and is hella cheap! I totally want to stock up on like a case of it.

this makes me miss my chats with smolderingheart! ♥

Mmmm... I smell so yummy right now! I have on Fiore Flirt and a little bit of Coco Crema. DELICIOUS! Thankfully, I finally have another 2 scents that I can wear without giving me a damn headache! But Maybe Baby is still my loverrrrr. ♥

I also got my tooth whitener in and the special AM and PM toothpastes. I love it all! I swear, I can already tell my teeth are whiter after using 1 ampoule, and it doesn't HURT. All that other shit makes my teeth so sennnnsitive. And the toothpastes are interesting (I'm used to only using mint-flavored) and make my teeth feel really clean.

There has been drama happening on the interstate since the second I got here. Hey, at least it's keeping me awake. <s>Anyone driving, in case you miss my signs I made, the right lane is closed I-110N at Convention</s>. <s>The left 2 lanes are closed I-110N at Government right now (9:30 am).</s> I'll edit this post when it opens up again.

Also, beastiegirl, there was an Injury Accident at 7:50 this morning at Arlington and McGrath.
